The Venture Canoes Prospector 155 is a classic, traditionally designed open canoe. Measuring just over 15ft in length (464cm/15ft2) with a Corelite construction to keep the weight down to only 36kgs, Venture have set the Prospector 155 up perfectly for either tandem or solo paddling. With slightly less rocker than other manufacturers Prospectors the 155 tracks well when touring, while this does mean you are slightly slower in a 360 turn for most paddlers this is no real disadvantage. If paddlers are confident in getting the Prospector 155 over onto its edge it will turn well as when edging it will allow the bow and the stern to lift out of the water slightly spinning the canoe on the centre of the hull. The softer more rounded chine and slight tumblehome enables easier edging and a stable feeling when the canoe is flat on the water. The bow and stern of this canoe are curved above the waterline which allows for a drier ride on whitewaters as well as on rivers or choppier open water lake, broad or loch crossings. As a day tripping or cruising canoe the Prospector 155 is a great size allowing for 2 paddlers and some kit, however for those wanting to use the Prospector 155 for expeditions it might be worth checking out the Venture Canoes Prospector 165 for a little more load capacity and carrying space.
The Venture Prospector 155 Cruiser is outfitted with 2 oiled wood webbed seats as standard and with a matching oiled wooden carrying yoke. The seat hangers are a constructed from metal which ensures they are robust and will stand the test of time. Large carry handles are moulded into the bow and the stern deck end caps which makes two person lifting, loading or portaging easy and comfortable. The gunwales are a standard vinyl construction and profile which ensures they are able to offer top durability.
The Venture Prospector 155 open canoe is an ideal canoe as a go anywhere do anything kind of day tripping or light multi day weekending tripping boat. No matter if you want to paddle on calm flat waters or get out there on the more wild whitewaters either solo or tandem the Prospector 155 is sure to see you enjoying it all.
