Swift Canoes Keewaydin 17
The Swift Canoes Keewaydin 17 much like the slightly smaller Keewaydin 16 is a brilliant touring or tripping style open canoe ideally suited for either day paddles with the family or more adventurous expedition style week long treks. The Keewaydin accelerates through the water with ease and gives a brilliant feeling of gliding along with every paddle stroke. The Asymmetrical hull design allows for a longer sleeker front, giving a longer entry line and a moderate amount of rocker to the bow of the canoe it enables a more manoeuvrable front. Rounded chine areas make the Keewaydin 17 handle wind and waves with ease, the rounded hull allows the waves to roll under the canoe with little affect or feeling of them moving the Keewaydin around. The stern of the canoe is very straight with less rocker than the front which gives great straight line tracking, but also allows the rear of the canoe to simply follow the more manoeuvrable bow around.
Internally like all Swift Canoes a Keewaydin 17 looks and feels the business. With a lovely contoured Cherry wood bow & stern seat making the Keewaydin 17 comfortable in both a seated or kneeling position just resting on the contoured front of the seat. The Keewaydin also comes with a matching Cherry wood carrying yoke which is sculpted to contour around your neck, shoulders and spine, this makes it comfortable to use, and in a Swift Canoe you can actually use it for its designed purpose of portaging even with a 17ft canoe. Lovely Cherry wood carry handles on the front and rear mean that if you are tandem paddling both paddlers have a comfortable handle to help move the Keewaydin to and from the water.
Constructed from the superbly lightweight Kevlar Fusion material the Keewaydin 17 weighs as little as 18.4kgs. Swifts Kevlar fusion material is one of their most popular laminate canoe constructions due to its fantastic strength to weight ratio. Constructed with a urethane resin system for top durability and longevity along with a thin layer of exterior gel coat. The hull is made up of an exterior layer of polyester as well as S-Glass and kevlar cloth layers sandwiching a durable foam cored ribbing system. The laminate fused together with a high impact and flexible urethane acrylate resin system injected during high pressure infusion process produces an optimal dispersion and laminate consistency. Based on a laminate material construction Kevlar Fusion is a popular material as it offers great abrasion and impact resistance. These canoes can be finished in some wonderful colours giving a real vibrant exterior look. All Swift Canoes now have a superb UV shield that is now use on every current hull! This adds more protection as well as better scratch resistance, which all laminate canoe owners crave. The UV shield helps to not only reduce the impact of UV on all Swift Canoes laminates but it allows them to reduce the overall hull weight. It also adds some scratch resistance to the hull, while scratches will initially still be visible, after applying a coating of 303 aerospace protectant, scratches appear much less visible - if visible at all. Scratches and 'usage marks' are far less of a concern on Swift Canoes anyway, due to the laminate being impregnated with the resin, this means the laminate material of a Swift hull is never exposed with a desperate need for repair, unlike other brands using laminates in their constructions. Don't forget as with all laminate construction boats, a single application of 303 aerospace protectant will only last for a couple of trips, so to keep that new shiny look re-application will be required.

So putting this material with a super lightweight Carbon Kevlar trim is the ideal solution. Using their unique process enables them to infuse the canoe hull and gunwales together as one part making a bond between the hull and trim. This stunning looking trim is maintenance free and gives a super lightweight feel to these canoes and makes it a pleasure to use and portage.
