Badger Paddles La Bonga

The Badger Paddles La Bonga is a general purpose short bladed beavertail style that is perfect for a range of paddlers and paddling. Most Badger paddles are finished and made by hand allowing them all to have just the right amount of flex based on the thickness through the dihedral central shaft this means all paddles are ever so slightly different as all bits of wood are different. It does however mean that you get a truly unique paddle every time you buy a badger paddle.

The La Bonga canoe paddle has a traditional pear style grip which offers a lovely rounded top that fits well in your hand not feeling uncomfortable. The compact nature of this paddle enables perfect shallow water use, having a shorter beavertail style blade means you can still move through shallow waters well without the risk of always hitting the bottom. We see a lot of paddlers using the La Bonga as a spare paddle for when they get into these shallow waters, but using the Badger Paddles Badgertail or Tripper as a smoother deep water paddle.

Like all Badger paddles the La Bonga is thickened not only through the spine of the blade but also in the high wear area of the tip of the blade. This allows flexion when pulling the paddle through the water giving a smoother stroke that is kind on the paddlers joints. The Beavertail shorter, wider blade is kind on entry level paddlers taking their first steps in canoeing allowing them to move a lot of water when needed, but be relaxed the rest of the time.

Adding to the attention to detail all Badger Paddles are supplied with a protective paddle sock for transport and storage. For maintaining your Badger Paddle we recommend using Badger Paddles Canoe Paddle Oil.

Paddle Maintenance - Using Badger Oil

Instructions for oiling your canoe paddle:
  • First prepare the wood by making sure it is clean & dry.
  • Sand where necessary & ensure the surface is free of loose particles & dust.
  • Apply oil with a clean rag*.
  • Use a fine sandpaper to “wet sand” using the oil for lubrication.
  • Let stand for a few minutes to allow oil to penetrate.
  • Wipe away excess Badger Oil, if any, with a clean rag then leave to dry for 12 hours.
*For larger applications, a brush, roller, or sprayer could be used.

Repeat if necessary. Number of coats determined by desired results, amount of use, and exposure to the elements. We recommend a minimum of 4 coats on bare wood. Drying time is approximately 24 to 36 hours. Please allow 24 hours between coats. Approximate coverage:3 square meters per litre. Provides a water resistant coating. Safe for food contact times.
